Hello,
I bought the codec and installed it on my Windows workstation, all went well.
However when I tried to install it on my Macbook Pro I got the following error:

Adobe plugin installation failed, trying as admin (sudo)...
Password:
I think that my admin password is required, but I cannot enter anything at this point.
Please help - I'm a PC veteran, but new to this Mac business 😉
Yes, it could not write to the Adobe plugins location, and it's trying to do it with sudo again, that's why it's asking for admin password.
By "I cannot enter anything at this point", what do you mean? You cannot type into the terminal anything?
I think I know what your problem is. You can in fact type, it just doesn't show anything (doesn't give any feedback), that's how the password prompt for sudo works.
So just simply type your admin password and press enter, it'll work.
